MP for South Swindon Sir Robert Buckland has welcomed the announcement that Swindon Borough Council has received funding of £1.5 from the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.
The grant funding, which was awarded by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, will be used as part of an investment programme in the Park South area, with council homes that were built using non-traditional construction methods receiving a number of energy-saving measures.
The improvements will include external wall insulation and draught proofing to ensure that homes do not lose their heat and become easier and cheaper to keep warm. Solar panels will also be fitted to properties and the council refurbishment programme will also include replacing UPVC windows and doors to create more efficient homes for tenants.
Sir Robert Buckland said:
“During this difficult time for families, this government funding is welcome news and will mean that council house tenants in the Park South area will benefit from having warmer, greener, and cheaper homes.”
Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, said:
“This investment will help thousands of households to heat their homes for less, keep them warm for longer, and could save hundreds on their annual energy bill.
“The green energy sector is growing, and this funding will support green jobs and provide the training needed to deliver these vital upgrades to homes.”
