It was lovely to be back at a very important heritage building in Faringdon Road here in Swindon last Friday, which I knew in its previous incarnation as the Citizens Advice Bureau Centre; but now, it’s home to an incredible local business called Love Brownies Swindon.
Since opening its doors here in the town in April, Love Brownies has been receiving rave reviews from customers about the delicious food and the amazing friendly service they offer.
This excellent local business sells a selection of brownies in a variety of flavours, including double chocolate, salted caramel, and even a mince pie brownie for the festive season. They also sell a range of delicious freshly brewed coffees and magnificent brownie milkshakes, as well as offering a ‘Dale’s Kitchen’ breakfast and lunch menu.
As you may have read in my previous columns, I am keen to support and promote the many wonderful local businesses we have here in Swindon through my Local Business Support Campaign, so it was great to meet members of the Federation of Small Businesses Team at Love Brownies.
Since 1974, the Federation of Small Businesses has been supporting local businesses here in the town, with over 170 members in South Swindon alone. It was great to learn more about their recent work locally to help start, run, and grow businesses in a variety of sectors.
I was also very pleased to visit the team at the Hearing and Mobility Store last week. This local business, which has been in the centre of Wroughton for a number of years, has moved to a series of historic buildings at The Forge, that have been lovingly restored and which provide a really important service to local residents, with assistance on mobility issues.
Finally, to round off a week of visits, it was great to be back at St Joseph’s Catholic College to meet the College Chronicles Team on Friday afternoon. I was very pleased to learn more about the excellent work they are doing as part of the enrichment club, including writing a monthly newsletter – keep up the good work team!
Meanwhile, at the Ellendune Centre in Wroughton on Sunday, King Cole’s domain had a terrible problem when Bluto the Giant terrorised the land. And along with the rest of the audience, I thoroughly enjoyed the annual Wroughton Amateur Dramatic and Musical Society Christmas Panto ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. With grateful thanks to all of the team at WADAMS, who have been an important part of the Wroughton community since first forming in 1964, and over the years have entertained thousands of local residents.
Finally, my Local Charity of the Week is Jessie May. This wonderful charity provides free nursing care at home for children with terminal illnesses across the South West, including here in Swindon.
Jessie May offers end-of-life care and bereavement support, as well as vital respite sessions and emotional support. This allows families to make the most of the precious time they have together and to create treasured family memories.
There are many ways that you can support this wonderful charity, including donating, volunteering, using Amazon Smile to shop, and playing the local hospice lottery. Further information about this brilliant charity can be found by visiting https://jessiemay.org.uk/
