South Swindon MP Robert Buckland is calling on residents in Toothill to support a Big Local campaign to help fund a new crossing warden along Stokesday Drive, outside Hazelwood Academy.
Robert Buckland MP said: “In recent weeks, I have been made aware of the dangers of the road outside Hazelwood Academy in Toothill. Following the retirement of the crossing warden in February, there have been several near misses which could have resulted in serious injury as children have come out of school.
“Swindon Borough Council and West Swindon Parish Council are looking into long term solutions to help calm the traffic on Stokesay Drive and make it safer for the children as they go to, and leave school. Whilst the options are investigated, the community have been able to create a temporary solution; they have set up a campaign for £5000 from the Toothill Big Local lottery grant to fund a new crossing warden. I am proud to support this project and I am calling for residents in Toothill to help the group secure this funding.
“If you are a resident of Toothill, you can pledge your support for this project on the Toothill Big Local website. http://www.toothillbiglocal.co.uk/projects/projects-in-progress/organisation-application-by-hazelwood-academy It only takes a moment to register and your vote will help towards achieving the 175 votes required to enable the funding to be granted. “
Parish Councillor for Toothill Matt Walker said: “The Toothill Big Local scheme provides an excellent opportunity for the community to get funding for the projects that are dear to them. I hope the residents of Toothill will get behind this project quickly, so that the school can secure the funding and a lollipop person can be in place for the start of the new school year.”
