Protecting our cherished environment is one of my primary focuses.
I welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment of £640 million for a Nature for Climate fund, which will mean that 30,000 more trees will be planted every year alongside a £500 million Blue Planet Fund to protect our precious oceans to work towards meeting our 2050 net zero target.
Here in Swindon, I run a Laptops For Local Schools And Charities Campaign. This green initiative aims to recycle unused and faulty laptops and get them back into use, avoiding landfill. Alongside this, there are many local initiatives in Swindon which play a vital role in protecting our future. Over the years, I have supported the work Swindon Climate Action Network and have regularly met members to discuss the Environment Bill and the Local Waste Strategy.
Swindon is leading the way by working towards installing England’s first Advanced Plastic Recycling Facility. I am pledging to continue this good work and have added my support to the Swindon Refill Campaign when it launched last September as well as continuing to encourage all local businesses to sign up for the scheme.
